Going Insane

So, we're about 3 weeks into the 7-week break here in Rexburg, and I'm slowly starting to lose my mind. I didn't realize that there would be so few people that I knew staying in town. I mean, the guys that I live with are great, but it's nice to be able to spend some time with girls too.

I know what you're thinking: 'Jon, you're just not trying. Now stop whining and go find a girl!' Au contraire, mes amis...The only girls that I know who are still in town are close friends of my ex who pretty much want to kill me because I broke up with her. And any girls that I do know who don't fit into that category must just not like me enough to spend an hour or so of their day with me, because I've been getting a lot of screened phone calls and text messages lately. I leave messages, but no returned calls...Talk about a blow to one's self-esteem, eh? Oh well...I'll find something to do with my time here in Rexburg.

The good thing about living with a bunch of popular guys is that I get invited on popular people activities. Just the other day we decided to get some inner tubes and float down the Dry Bed river. It was super nice to just relax and not have to worry about anything for a while. I would have brought a camera so I could post pictures, but cameras and water don't get along all that well, ya know?

I'm thinking I may rent a book from the library. I tried reading the French translation of 'Les Miserables,' but that enterprise didn't go all too well since I was taking classes. It's not a very long abridgment, but he uses a lot of Old French which doesn't make any since to me. Now that I have so much free time, I can find a dictionary and finally be able to understand what the heck he's trying to say...

Wow, this post is a lot more boring than I ever could have imagined...Well, if it's any consolation, I'll be adding my second official post to my database tech support blog. So if you're interested in learning about INSERT Statements, go check it out!

Well, I apologize for the severe lack of interesting material in this blog post, but I thought that posting might help pass the time...I'm going for a little hike this afternoon, so maybe I'll find something interesting out there I can post about. Until then, au revoir, mes amis!

Update

I know, I know; it's been forever since I've blogged...I am ashamed...Anywho, I figured it was about time for an update.  The Spring 2012 semester is finally over, and I'm taking a well deserved break from my 17-hour credit load.  Here at BYU-Idaho we have what's called a Track System - it breaks the school year into three trimesters (or tracks); students are assigned to 2/3 of these trimesters.  So some students are in school during the winter and fall tracks, some during spring and fall, etc.  I'm on the spring/fall track.  Between the spring and fall semesters we have our equivalent of summer break - 7 weeks of rest and relaxation (of course, some students opt to take summer session classes).  We just finished the first week of the break and I already feel like I'm going crazy...I have a job, but they only call me in when they need something done on the website (which isn't as often as I would like), so I'm thinking of taking on another job.  I'll be tutoring for CIT 320 - Database Design and Development in the fall, so that should keep me pretty busy; it's got the reputation for being one of the hardest classes in the CIT department, so hopefully I'll have enough students to make a decent living for a while.

Speaking of database, I decided to create a second blog dedicated to helping students and other beginner SQL developers overcome some of the common road blocks that we all encounter while learning how to create and maintain databases. If any of you happen to be in a beginner database development class or are having trouble with SQL commands and statements, please don't hesitate to visit; you can navigate there simply by hovering over the 'Tech Support' link in the navigation menu at the top of the page and clicking on 'Database.' I'll be adding more tutorials and guides later on, such as HTML/CSS guides, Cisco Networking and Network Troubleshooting, and Java Programming. Of course, that's quite a bit of work, so I'll be moving slowly but surely.

The worst thing about the 7-week break here in Rexburg is that most people go home to see family, so there aren't many people around to spend time with. There are still a few awesome people out here who come over and make life more enjoyable, though. We had a last-minute bonfire/s'mores night a few nights ago, and we watched The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring at the most legit home theater room I've ever been to (kudos to Abigail for moving into a wicked awesome apartment complex).

Well, I can't really think of anything else to talk about, so I should probably get going. Hopefully something blog-worthy will happen over the next few days that will blow your minds! Until then: take care, and God bless!

Thoughts at 3:30 am

So it's 3:30 in the morning now and, for some reason I can't fall asleep. I say 'for some reason,' but I know exactly why...I can't stop thinking about her.
Yes, her. She who will remain nameless, though I'm sure she knows perfectly well who she is.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you've wanted something or someone so deeply but - for one reason or another - you just can't have it/him/her? Yeah, that's exactly the predicament in which I currently find myself. I've spent a lot of time with this girl, and I feel like I want more than just a friendship with her. I even have to consciously stop myself from reaching over for her hand or rubbing her back or playing with her hair. These sound like simple gestures, but it's often the simple gestures that carry with them the greatest importance.
I know what you're asking yourself: "
Well, why doesn't he just tell her how he feels?" I have, my friend...I have...you see, she's not ready. Her heart's been broken and she's not ready to give it freely to another man.
Understandable.
Whether she believes it or not, she is beautiful. She is amazing. She is funny, brave, and strong. I know she doesn't believe me, but one day she will.
Maybe.
To her, I have but one thing to say: I'll be here when you're ready.

I Suck at Blogging...

Yeah, I really stink at keeping blogs up to date...but in all reality, this is the most upkept blog I've ever really had...So I guess it's not too too horrible...

So let's see here, the last post was in August, so I have a bit of time to make up for. Well, I mentioned Alise in my last post...yeah...we've actually broken up since then...kinda sucks, but what are ya gonna do, ya know? We're trying to be friends still, so that's good.

I worked for the school from late July to early January. I was the web developer for the Financial Services department, and the school moved to a Beta initiative. Trying to make the website a little more user-friendly. It looked pretty good...until the school decided to add some global styling rules that overrode some of my stylesheets...so some of the pages turned out pretty um...interesting...oh well...once the website went live, my job was over, so I'm more of a consultant now..trying to fix things without really coding or being at the computer...fun stuff!

In other news: I've been talking with an Army Reserve recruiter (SFC Caetano), and we're getting started with my military career! I'm working on getting into basic as soon as possible, then finishing school while drilling with a unit in Salt Lake City. When I graduate, I'll just commission through ROTC as a 2nd Lieutenant and go from there. I've been trying to make sure I'm in good enough shape to make it through basic and so far I've lost 10 pounds since the beginning of the year! I still need to shave an inch off my waist and gain an inch on my neck, and then I'll be all set to go! Woot woot!

Let's see...what else has been going on? Okay, I know this may come as a shock to some of you, but I've actually gotten into Vampire Diaries...Charity, a really good friend of mine, convinced me to pick up where I left off (another friend made me watch the first season, and then i dropped it), and I've actually gotten to like it...so congratulations, Charity; you've converted another one! :P It's actually not that bad...The first few episodes are kinda Twilight-ish, but once you get past them, things start to pick up and it gets a lot more interesting. So guys, I challenge you to give it a try! I'm told it makes you more attractive anyway! Not sure if it works, but we'll see.

Well, it's late, so I'd better get going. Maybe I'll post something tomorrow and start a new blog record: two days in a row...haha, 'night peeps!

Update

Wow...It's been a really long time since I've updated this thing...a friend of mine got onto me for not updating since April, and - since she's probably the only one who actually reads this thing - I figured I should get it up to date.

So, the semester is over! I actually got pretty decent grades. For my Web Design class, I made a website for the school's ROTC program. You can find it at http://www.jdlundberg.com. Just click on "BYU-Idaho ROTC" under the "Finished Projects" box.

In other news, I've been able to apply the web design skills I've learned in that class to my new job. I've been hired by Financial Services on campus to work on the new site for the school's beta campaign. It's still under production, but as soon as it goes live, I'll be sure to include a link to it on here. It's a pretty fun project; the only thing I don't like about it is that the school's focusing a lot on making the pages uniform, so they have templates that we need to follow. This limits my creative control a bunch, but also cuts down a lot of work time for me, so it's kind of a bittersweet situation.

On another topic, I've finally found something every man is searching for in life: that one special girl he wants to spend the rest of his life (and, in the case of LDS men, the rest of eternity) with. Her name is Alise Ercek, and she's absolutely amazing! She's from Lancaster, California. She's actually back home for most of the between-semester break; she's been there for 3 weeks, and still has a week left. I miss her like crazy, and I can't wait for her to get back! She told me that I owe her a nice, long cuddle session when she gets back. No problems there! I can't wait to see her again! I'm totally, 100% twitterpaited, and I don't care who knows it! I love that girl like crazy!

So...not sure what all else to put up...I think I might put some more up here tomorrow...that's a BIG maybe, though...so we'll see...Later, kiddies!

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Hey there, kiddo's! So, only 5 days until the new semester, and I'm still pretty bored...My roommate and I even had a Lord of the Rings marathon the other day...I never realized how long the extended editions are...But hey, it was fun! And it gave us something to do to pass the hours.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned in my last post that I was involved in the ROTC program here on campus. Well, last night, my roommate told me that our battalion needed to design a crest or banner of some sort. So, I got onto and had a little fun. And, here is the end result (keep in mind that this is more of a rough prototype until I can get a hold of software powerful enough to get a final draft done):

I personally think it's pretty cool. Still have a bit of work to do on it, but hey, like I said, it's a work in progress.

Okay, that's about it for now; I just wanted to show off my amazing picture-editing skills.
